In 2008 I shot over 500 images over a two day period of this unique buck. I have never photographed a buck quite like him. His massive antlers twisted and turned and headed in directions uncommon in mule deer. He is definitely a one-of-a-kind.

This buck's body was beaten and battered from the brutal fighting of the rut. As I watched him make his way through the rocky terrain, it became clearly obvious to me that his left eye was blinded from a horn gore and he limped from a hind leg injury which slowed him down as he tried to maintain control of his 10 doe harem. On the last day photographing him, he crested the ridge following a doe in heat and disappeared...I never saw him again. Hopefully, he made it through last years winter so I can shoot another 500 images of him this fall.
