Years
ago, when I was starting out as a wildlife photographer, a
friend of mine who lived in southern Utah told me about a
huge typical buck that had been seen in northern Arizona.
I skeptically traveled to the area, not knowing if the story
was true but in the back of my mind hoped it was. Most of
the time, rumours are just that. Rumours.
When
I arrived, I did some hiking and scouting; looking for the
place I was told about. After a few hours of searching, I
rounded a truck sized boulder and came face to face with the
biggest typical I had ever seen. The 195 class typical stopped
nibling on tree leafs and lifted his massive, perfectly uniform
rack to look at me. I fired. And fired again. The metalic
sound of my camera's shutter caused him to spin on his back
legs and bolt a few yards where he stopped, looked back at
me and then jumped over a downed log and out of sight.
